In making career choices don’t be in a rush as started in last week’s article where I started with the first four steps for making a right career choice, today am concluding the topic with the last three steps.

5. SHORTLIST

Take a step and create a list, the list includes jobs
Take a step and create a list, the list includes jobs that are in line with what you are passionate about

You have information about the various jobs that you could be qualified or that you have liked. Take a step and create a list, the list includes jobs that are in line with what you are passionate about. Let’s say you studied computer science and you are passionate about the internet.  You also want to work in a certain city, make a list of the various job openings that are available for you.

You could have your list of jobs like.

  • Cybersecurity consultant
  • Database administrator
  • Web designer and administrator
  • Games developer
  • Software Engineer
  • Forensic Computer analyst
  • Machine learning Engineer
  • SEO specialist
  • UX designer.

6.CONSULT THE EXPERTS

You have to take another step to ask the various experts about the various jobs.
“It is a great advantage for us to be able to consult someone who knows us, so that we may learn to know ourselves.” ― Teresa of Ávila, Interior Castle

You already have a list of the jobs you could do. You have to take another step to ask the various experts about the various jobs.

Example

There is a job opening in the Samsung group and they are looking for a UX designer. You take a step and as an expert in Huawei Company. Find out what are you supposed to know about UX designer and what are some expectations about being a UX designer.

Go to companies that are not even employing anyone and talk with the relevant experts. This will help you know about the job even more. You already have the knowledge about all the various jobs you can do need to go the 7 steps.

7. WRITE A RELEVANT RESUME/CV

How can I write my resume?
“Your CV is just a commodity, Package yourself.” ― Bernard Kelvin Clive

This step looks too obvious to some yet many make mistakes here. Your resume should say much about you in line with what you are applying for. Many just write one Resume for all the job opening they will apply for. Example talk about the experiences you have had in line with UX designer and not the vague experiences. You got to be specific in your resume, in qualifications too chose the qualifications that are in line with what you are applying for. I will talk about Resume writing in detailed soon.

Well, there are the steps, I kindly request you to put them to practice, try them and kindly give me feedback. Is there a step you would like me to expound? Do you have some questions about the various steps highlighted in our previous article and this? Be sure to leave your response in the comments below.
