Happy New Year to you!
The much-awaited 2020 is here and we are days away already.
Do you have goals for the year? If you do, I hope you’ve started working on it.
One of the major things you should be fully conscious of this year is your style.
“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak- Rachel Zoe”
Style is one major thing you can’t buy but of course, fashion can be bought.
A good fashion sense (style) can help in fast-tracking the achievement of your goals for the year. For instance, if one of your goals this year is to get your dream job, in a particular XYZ company, and after applying, you’re called for an interview and you appeared ‘unprofessional’ because of your style, might not get that dream job of yours. You got your opportunity, but you weren’t ready for it.
What I’m trying to say is doors of opportunity will be open for you this year but you have to be ready.
One of my plans for you this year is to help you achieve all your laid down goals by creating for you the right style…
So before I proceed I’d like to say if you have anything to add or any topic you think we should discuss together, please feel free to share in the comment section below.
Today we’ll be discussing the topic Finding Your Style
“What is my style is not your style, and I don’t see how you can define it. It’s something that expresses who you are in your own way- Irish Apel”
Note: Wearing designers are so good but that is no style. I say the style is how to put your outfits together no matter the brand. What you make out of your wardrobe is your style so find it.
Now let’s look at these few guidelines together
1. Understand and love your body shape
This is where everything starts basically and it is not because body shape dictates what you should wear rather it helps you to know what kind of clothes will look naturally good on you. This is where developing your own style sets in.
Remember that each one of us, we are all unique and I’ll like to add this “See yourself the way God sees you.” You are valuable to Him never forget that.
Never let anyone or even yourself talk YOU down because the truth is nobody will value and accept you or what you wear until you do.
When you understand your body then it becomes easy to visualize your style and living in it.
2. Clear out your wardrobe
This process helps you to have an overview of your wardrobe and most importantly, the clothes you’ve repeated the most which most likely point towards the style you prefer.
If you find out there are certain clothes and accessories you purchase again and again because they make you feel happy and comfortable, Darling they are your style and you have to embrace it.
Now if by any means you notice a piece or two that doesn’t fit with your overall vibe, it means your odd piece(s) symbolizes a style you like but aren’t fully comfortable trying.
3. Gather Your Old Looks Together
At this point, you’ll go for a little walk down memory lane by looking through your pictures from the past. This gives you a broad idea of what you want your style to be like and also helps you build further on it.
Repeating the same thing can be boring so you can play with it by aligning them with the current fashion trend.
You can add statement earrings, handbags, scarfs, etc.
4. Know Your Favorite Colors And Combinations
If you are looking to have a signature style, colors play a huge role in helping you decide. You need to have or let me say train yourself to have an eye for details or understand the sensibilities of how colors work.
Learn how to marry the colors in your wardrobe well. Also knowing and understanding the color wheel can go a long way (we’ll go deeper into this later).
While learning how to marry colors, you must also know how to match them with your skin tone.
5. Know The Accessories You Prefer
Your accessories speak a lot about your outfits and your personality. Ask yourself ‘Do I like one chunky piece of necklace or huge earrings or both together?’ or ‘Is jewelry my thing?’ or ‘Do I prefer to go bare on my neck with studs on my ears and a wristwatch?’ or ‘Do like flats or ballerinas or pumps shoes?’ or ‘Boots or Uggs’, ‘Flip flops or Sneakers?’.
Take a good look at your jewelry box and your shoe closet and see what the ones you use the most and stuff you always hesitant to try on. This will go a long way in building your desired style.
6. Have A Style Icon
Your style icon might not necessarily be a celebrity. It could be someone you see almost daily. That tells a lot about who you are, who you want to look like and what you like.
Whoever it is you might like, your style icon can help you find and build your style.
It’s a new year and you can’t afford to be the same you were last year.
