How to make flavored puff puff

Hey, lovelies! it’s an amazing year of perfection, just before we start off, I will be taking us on some exciting features this year and introducing us to some of my menus, probably make manna as well (smiles).

In my previous post, I showed us an easy and simple way to make a home hot dog. Today we will travel to Nigeria, and make one of our easiest and yummy small chops called puff puff.

Nigeria puff puff is one of the loveliest snack eaten by everyone and simple to make. It does not require many ingredients and always saves the day. I took some to the beach with my foreign friends and my Iranian friend with just a bit ate off everything. if I find my self in her house, trust me, I can’t leave without making her some (smiles).

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups of self-rising flour
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • a sachet of dry yeast
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 pieces of bananas
  • 1/2 cup of  slightly boiled water ( for the dry yeast)
  • 1/2 cup of granulated  sugar
  • vegetable/olive oil (for frying )

the above ingredients can amount up to 30-50 pieces of puff puff, dependent on how you want the sizes.

INSTRUCTION:

(i)  Pour the sachet yeast in a cup and add warm water to dilute it, and set aside.

(ii) In another bigger bowl, pour the flour, sugar, diluted yeast and add some amount of water for consistency and use a whisk to mix the ingredients together. I prefer using a whisk for the mixture because I do not like my hands paste with the dough.

(iii) In mixing the dough, make sure it is not too thick or too watery; to have a perfect dough for frying after adding the blended bananas.

(iv) Use an aluminum foil to cover the dough and allow it to rise for at least an hour. When opening the risen dough expect to see some shape like bubbles, that tell you the dough is ready for frying.

(v) Put your frying pan on fire, heat up the oil, pour the blended bananas in the dough and mix.  Scoop the dough with a spatula that has a little circle like shape (ice cream scoop ), or use your hands to make the desired circle like, the shape of your choice.

(vi) When frying, observe to see a golden brown color (as depicted in the pics), then turn the puff puff to the other side to achieve the same.

(vii) use your spoon sieves to remove the dough from the oil and enjoy it. It can be eaten alone or with any favorite drink of your choice.

# In this recipe, nutmeg is not necessarily needed.

# Do not add the blended bananas when mixing the dough, it should be added when you are about to fry.

# I love bananas flavor, guess you could try vanillas or strawberry flavors as well.

# use enough oil for deep frying to avoid the puff puff absorbing the oil and becoming squashy and oily.

# Be mindful to turn the heat down when the oil is very hot, so it doesn’t get burnt.
